What is Kyo-yaki?

Inheriting history, reflecting the present

Kyo-yaki and Kiyomizu-yaki are among the traditional crafts that represent Kyoto. The names originally referred to ceramics fired around the Kiyomizu-zaka area of Kyoto, and today they refer to ceramics from kilns throughout the Kyoto region.

Kyoto ceramics that reflect wabi-sabi

Kyo-yaki and Kiyomizu-yaki ceramics developed mainly in the Higashiyama district of Kyoto in the early Edo period, against the backdrop of a flourishing tea ceremony culture. Beloved as vessels that hold both functional beauty and the spirit of wabi-sabi, they reflect the aesthetic of tea masters and the heart of hospitality.

As a gift

A thoughtful gift for family, friends, or loved ones living abroad.

Please review before purchasing

While we do our best to capture the product accurately in photos, colors may appear slightly different depending on your monitor or browser. Thank you for your understanding.

Every piece is finished by hand by an artisan. As a result, there are small variations in color, shape, pattern, and texture. We invite you to enjoy these as the unique "expression" of each handcrafted vessel.

We're sorry, but the product cannot be used over open flame or in an oven, as this may cause damage or warping.

After use, please wash gently with a mild detergent. Drying thoroughly before storing helps keep the piece beautiful for a long time.

Fine glaze crackles (kannyū), small pinhole marks, dark iron specks from firing, and slight variations in the glaze are the natural results of working with natural materials by hand. None of these affect quality — please enjoy them as the individuality of each piece.
