Created in collaboration with Sato Kiyomatsu Shoten, a long-established lacquer atelier in Kyoto’s Nishijin district,
the KISSUL Color-Lacquered Tumbler brings urushi craftsmanship into the rhythm of modern life.

By adapting an ancient baking technique, natural Japanese lacquer is applied to stainless steel —
resulting in a bold yet refined fusion of tradition and innovation.

The vacuum-insulated double-wall design ensures excellent temperature retention,
while the lacquer coating offers a smooth mouthfeel, natural antibacterial properties, and the unique ability to be restored over time.

A thoughtful choice for both daily use and gifting,
each piece is individually handcrafted — slight variations in color and texture are part of its singular charm.

A new form for urushi

The name KISSUL comes from the Japanese verb "kissuru" — to taste together. It carries the wish that the piece becomes a starting point for warm connection and conversation between maker and user.

Care instructions

  • Do not heat in a microwave or oven.
  • Do not place in the freezer.
  • Use and store out of reach of infants and small children.
  • Even when the outside feels cool, the contents or drinking edge may be hot — please be careful to avoid burns.
  • Do not leave contents inside for long periods.
  • Keep away from open flames.
  • Do not soak in hot or cold water for long periods.
  • Do not leave in direct sunlight or in hot environments such as inside a car.
  • Do not rub strongly, as the lacquer finish may peel.
  • Avoid dropping or hard impacts.
  • Sharp objects may scratch, peel, or damage the surface.
  • Do not use abrasive sponges or metal scrubbers, as they may scratch or peel the finish.
  • Do not use thinner, benzine, or chlorine-based bleach.
  • If using a dishwasher, place the item where no force or weight will be applied to it.
  • To keep the product looking its best for longer, hand wash with lukewarm water and a soft sponge, then immediately dry with a soft cloth.
  • Store away from direct sunlight to prevent discoloration of the finish.
  • You may notice the smell of urushi when first using the product or when filling it with hot liquids — this is harmless and fades gradually with use.
  • In rare cases, individuals with sensitive skin may experience irritation from urushi. If this occurs, please consult a specialist.
  • Each product is finished by hand. Slight unevenness or texture on the surface is part of the handmade process and is not a defect.
